Welcome to Foresters Riding Club. We are a BHS affiliated riding club with our activities centred around the Epping Forest area and our membership drawn mainly from the local area and North & East London.

A GOOD TURNOUT FOR THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Friday 20th November 2009 at Upshire Village Hall.

The meeting was well attended by new and old faces, in fact the numbers caught the club unawares and we had to do a ‘loaves and fishes’ act with the sausages rolls and bottle of wine! Minutes of last years AGM were read and approved and then the meeting really got underway with lots of input from members keen to make a difference and all showing real enthusiasm for 2010.   Watch this space….

FOND FAREWELLS TO OLD  FACES….

A fond farewell was formally said to Jan Taylor, our longstanding Chairman, at  the end of AGM.  A presentation of a beautiful bronze statue of a huntsman and his horse and hounds was made to Jan who declared it a lovely surprise and says it has pride of  place in her living room.  Jan is keen to keep her connections with the club and has booked her place that the Xmas Dinner amongst other things

The club also said sad thank yous and ‘au revoir’ to Alyson Parker a stalwart member of the club and committee for many years.  A presentation of a gift hamper was made as a thank you on behalf of all members, both past and present.  Again, the club is keeping in touch with Alyson who is happy to continue to afford members access to the popular clinics she hosts from her home in Upshire.

…AND HELLO NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The club is delighted that new faces have come forward to sit on the committee.  They are:  Jane Maskell; Natasha Gallager, Kate Fitzgibbons, Claire Quinton Sue Parker Lorna Westgarth.

JUNIORS TEST THE WATERS FOR 2010

Foresters entered a junior team into the Team Dressage, friendly, which was held at Norton Heath on a very windy Saturday 28th November.  The team was a very novice team, and whilst overall team success eluded the Foresters, all riders gained a valuable experience from competing.  Alice Quinlan on Appollo and Charlotte Hussey on Sally competed at Prelim 12 and gained credible scores despite both leaving the arena at one point! It was only the third time out for Alice Rowe on her new horse, Billy who came a credible 4th in the Novice 28 individuals. This bodes well for the future for them. Well done too to Alice Hussey, our youngest member age 10 who, with no notice and no experience of the Novice 28 test gamely stood in for Rosa Thatcher-Khan.  Unfortunately, Rosa had to withdraw at the last minute due to a riding accident, which resulted in broken fingers!   We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her next year.

Obviously the aim is to win, and we all like to bring trophies and rosettes home, however one of the philosophies of the club, and the BHS organisation is to help riders improve and achieve and I can safely say all gained in this respect.

FANTASTIC RESULTS AT RIDING CLUBS TEAM CHALLENGE - BLENHEIM 10TH SEPTEMBER

Foresters came a very creditable 5th in the RC Team Challenge out of 38 teams!!!   Team members  Shari Butchart with Olympic, Julie Horton with Royle Walsh, Alyson Parker with Moloko and Kristie Casey Butchart with High Five performed outstandingly in this prestigious competition that has become tremendously competitive even to be invited to enter.  It was a 1.05m show jumping course followed by xc course in an arena. All Clear but too fast to win.

CLINIC  NEWS

Fortunately, there was a break in the current horrendous weather for Clare’s clinic held on the 15th November at Woodlands This was particularly appreciated by riders Chris and Lindsay, who braved a really windy 45 minute hack to arrive at Woodlands. All those that attended enjoyed the clinic. True to form Clare worked her charges with enthusiasm and riders, horses and Clare were sweating at the end of their session despite the chilly temperatures  Hopefully, by popular request more clinics will be arranged in the future with Clare.
